AutoNation Sales Rise 12%

AutoNation Inc. (NYSE:AN) announced a 12% rise in new vehicles sales to 20,534 units in April 2012. The improvement in sales was attributable to higher sales in all its segments compared to the comparable month of the prior year.

(NYSE:F), General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) and Chrysler. During the month, the automotive retailers sales of Ford vehicles went up 4%.

The sluggish growth was attributable to lower sales performance of the two biggest players in the industry #x2013; General Motors and Ford, and fewer selling days (due to more Sundays in the month compared with April 2011). However, auto sales were favorably affected by fuel-efficient lineups and pent-up demand.

Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, AutoNation is the largest automotive retailer in the US The company owns and operates 260 new vehicle franchises that sell 32 brands located in the major metropolitan markets in 15 states. The company offers a range of automotive products and services, including new vehicle, used vehicles, vehicle maintenance and repair services, vehicle parts, vehicle protection products and other aftermarket products.

received a 2012 Automotive News PACE Award for its turbocharger with low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology. The first in mass production, BorgWarner’s latest breakthroughs in boosting technologies and protective coatings for turbocharger components enables automakers to take advantage of low-pressure EGR to significantly improve fuel economy, reduce emissions and improve engine response for diesel engines. With a variety of awarded and pending patents, the technology has launched with a major global OEM. It was one of three BorgWarner innovations named as finalists for this year’s PACE Awards.

“BorgWarner’s track record of innovation was built by the entrepreneurial spirit and ‘can-do’ attitude of our employees. We are passionate about developing the advanced technologies that drive our industry forward with improved fuel economy, reduced emissions and enhanced performance,” said Timothy M. Manganello, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BorgWarner. “We are honored to receive this prestigious award in recognition of our employees’ hard work and dedication.” With six PACE Awards, three PACE Innovation Partnership Awards and one PACE Environmental Award since 2005, BorgWarner has become one of the most decorated companies in the history of the awards competition.

While EGR is proven to reduce emissions, until recently only high-pressure systems have been available because turbochargers were unable to withstand the extreme loads and damaging particles inherent in low-pressure systems. To create an effective low-pressure EGR system, BorgWarner engineered innovative coatings to protect turbocharger compressor wheels and other components from abrasive and corrosive particles. Because the exhaust gas is extracted after the turbine rather than before it, more exhaust gas is available for boosting. BorgWarner developed mixer geometries to allow sufficient mixing of the fresh air with the recirculated exhaust gas over relatively short sections and with low pressure losses. By enabling engine designers to comprehensively optimize the combustion process and increase EGR rates, BorgWarner’s turbocharger with low-pressure EGR helps reduce emissions, achieve better engine response and improve fuel economy.

Recognized around the world as a symbol of excellence, the annual Automotive News PACE Awards acknowledge automotive suppliers for superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance. PACE stands for Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence. The awards were presented by Automotive News with Ernst & Young and the Transportation Research Center Inc. The 18th annual PACE Award winners were chosen based on a comprehensive written application, site visit and extensive review by industry, academic and business leaders. BorgWarner’s turbocharger with low-pressure EGR technology was named a winner in the Product category, which recognizes innovations in new products, services or their development that have significant market impact and act as “game changers” in the automotive industry.

LONDON, ONTARIO, May 10, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) –
Canadians looking to improve their vehicle’s fuel efficiency can
choose to drive the Auto$mart way. Ed Holder, Member of Parliament
for London West, on behalf of the Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of
Natural Resources, today announced an updated version of the
Auto$mart Driver’s Education Kit. Auto$mart promotes fuel-efficient
driving practices and vehicle maintenance to improve fuel economy.
The kit includes a Driving Instructor’s Guide, Student Workbook and
videos that will be distributed to driver training schools across
Canada.

Mr. Holder made the announcement during the Eco-Run Fuel Efficiency
Demonstration organized by the Automotive Journalists Association of
Canada (AJAC) in collaboration with automobile manufacturers, the
Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) and Natural Resources Canada.
During the three-day car rally running from Brighton through Oshawa,
Toronto and Hamilton to London, participating journalists are
learning the most effective driving methods to improve fuel
efficiency. They are also driving new vehicles provided by automotive
manufacturers with some of the latest fuel-saving technology.

“Driving in a fuel-efficient manner is an easy choice which Canadians
can make that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower their
fuel costs,” said Mr. Holder. “Auto$mart teaches new drivers the same
fuel-saving techniques that participants are learning during
Eco-Run.”

The program works with driver educators nation-wide to introduce new
drivers to fuel-efficient driving techniques. Over 2,000 driving
instructors offer the training as part of their curriculum, and over
500,000 students per year learn to drive the Auto$mart way.

The Auto$mart program is part of the Government of Canada’s ecoENERGY
Efficiency Initiatives, a $195-million investment to improve energy
efficiency in Canada at home, at work and on the road. These
initiatives build on previous investments by further advancing
energy-efficient technologies, increasing our competitiveness and
creating and protecting Canadian jobs.

ST. LOUIS, April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ –
At some point, most everyone will need to borrow money, whether it’s for school, a car, a home, a business, or to meet daily expenses during a personal financial downturn. Of course, how that money is borrowed and how it is paid back can make a big difference in the total cost and a person’s overall financial standing.

“Knowing how, when, and how much to borrow can be difficult to determine,” said Mary Brockhaus, Senior Vice President, M&I, a part of BMO Financial Group. “But a little research and planning can go a long way to ensuring responsible borrowing and personal financial health.”

Brockhaus offers some advice on responsible borrowing and how to make sense of the options available.

Know your credit score. This number is vital, and will often determine whether you can borrow money, how large a loan you can secure, and what interest rate you’ll pay. Creditors will look at this score to gauge your ability to pay back a loan. It’s made available via three main agencies: TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. Credit reports from these agencies should be checked regularly to ensure accuracy.

Manage your credit score. There are many factors that play into a credit score, including your credit history, outstanding debts and your total number of credit accounts and loans. Paying off debt, making payments on time, and not opening new credit accounts will all help bring your credit score up.

Understand your responsibility before co-signing anyone else’s credit or loan. If a friend or family member makes that request, be sure you know what you’re signing and have the ability to make payments in the event the primary signator is not able to.

Prioritize your debt, whether you’re paying it off or taking out a loan. If you’re faced with multiple sources of debt, make a list and determine which should be paid off first. If possible, make more than the minimum monthly payments to keep interest costs down. When taking on more debt, avoid new credit cards where possible and focus debt where it can help you over the long run – in a home or a college education.

Set your kids up for success by educating them on borrowing. Give them small loans and charge interest as they’re paid back. Explain how credit cards work, and how much interest is paid when the bill comes. As kids get older and closer to college, talk to them about student debt and their prospects for paying those loans back after graduation.

Onlinemechanix.com announced today the launch of its new and revolutionary website that will simplify auto repair for millions of vehicle owners. Pennsylvania residents can use onlinemechanix.com to search for local auto repair shops and schedule service appointments online 24/7 for free. As long as consumers schedule their service appointments through onlinemechanix.com, they will have access to their vehicles’ maintenance history records at no charge.

Onlinemechanix.com enables consumers to maintain the relationships they have established with their local, friendly, reliable and lower cost auto repair shops and get the same types of services they would receive from larger chain auto repair shops.

The Federal Reserve reports that credit cards are used more than 20 billion times a year in the US with the total value of these transactions at about $1.9 trillion.

The average cardholder swipes the credit card 119 times a year with transactions averaging $88. Doing the math that is over $10,000 ($10,500) in credit card purchases.

According to The Fair Isaac Company, 37% of consumers who use credit cards carry more than $10,000 of debt. And those with the worst debt don’t know how much the debt they have. They have a general idea of the amount but they don’t want to know. If they don’t know maybe, it will go away. If you are serious about getting out of debt, you need to know how much debt you actually have.

If you are coupled, you really need to do this together. It will not be successful if only one of you considers the debt a problem.

Make a list of all of your debt. List each credit card and in separate columns list the interest rate and how much you owe on each card. Seeing it written often times is motivation to do something about it. Sort of like seeing yourself in a bathing suit and wanting to start a diet immediately!

Get copies of your credit reports and credit scores. Correct any mistakes and begin the process of improving your credit score.

Contact each of the credit card companies and ask them to lower the interest rate on your cards. If your scores are good and credit history does not show a lot of late payments you may be successful. If you get nowhere with the first person you speak with ask for their supervisor. They have the authority to lower your rate and will do so about 30% of the time especially if they think you will default on the loan.

Begin to pay off the credit card with the highest interest rate aggressively. If you have cards with small balances, pay those off. If you have a card with a very low interest rate consider transferring your balance from your other cards to that one. But, as always, beware of the “buts”. Check what the transfer fees will be.

If you can’t do it on your own consider using Consumer Credit Counseling Service. Link to their website or call 800-388-2227 for more help.

One more thing: Always pay your bills on time! Those late fees are expensive and they leave bad marks on your credit history and affect your credit score as well.

When you have paid off a card, consider canceling it. I did say consider for that could affect your credit score. Your score has many facets to the formula and one of the criteria looked at is the amount of debt you are carrying compared to your limit. They do not look with favor at someone who has maxed out their credit cards.

Good book: Deal with Your Debt by Liz Pulliam Weston

Acquiring new auto loans is a cost-effective way to generate auto financing for any brand new auto or truck.

ATLANTA, Apr 24, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) –
While credit reports typically provide a complete and accurate look at our credit history and tell a potential creditor how likely we are to repay them, errors on credit reports can cost consumers money. Misreported late payments and accounts that aren’t actually yours can affect the interest rate you pay when borrowing money and can, in some cases, prevent you from getting credit.

“Check your credit report regularly and address any incorrect information promptly,” cautions Laura Creamer, financial education specialist for CredAbility. “While many errors are common and easily corrected, others can be a sign that you have been a victim of identity theft and should be addressed quickly.” CredAbility shares common errors consumers should look out for:

Errors in personal information

Common errors include variations in names, including the addition of a suffix such as Jr. or Sr., or an incorrect middle name, addresses where you have never lived, and incorrect social security numbers. While errors in personal information might be more common for consumers with common last names, they can happen to anyone.

Incorrect balances on accounts

The balance on your accounts listed may be inaccurate. These balances, along with your available credit, are often used to determine how good a candidate you are for future credit, so correcting inaccuracies is important. Providing proof of balances with receipts is a great way to document the error to the credit bureau.

Late payments, collections and charge-offs

This is particularly common with medical bills. If your credit report shows a late payment that was actually made on time or an unpaid bill that you have paid, provide proof of payment to the credit bureau. Collection and charge-off activity where the creditor has taken your balance due as a loss will also affect your credit rating, so be sure that only accurate information appears and take steps to document any incorrect reports. Judgments, late payments and collection activity typically stay on your credit report for seven years, so be sure that any old information is addressed.

Accounts that aren’t yours

Carefully review the list of accounts that appear on your credit report to be sure they are actually yours. Errors sometimes occur when a family member, former spouse or someone with a similar name or address opens a credit account. In other cases, there may be fraudulent activity where someone has deliberately opened an account in your name. Knowing what accounts you have and checking your report regularly is an important step in protecting your credit.

Inaccurate account information

A good mix of credit types and a record of paying on time will have a positive impact on your credit score. Be sure that the information reported on your account is correct–such as the length of time the account has been opened, the type of account it is (usually revolving or installment), the credit limits and the payment history.

Correcting misinformation

If you find an error on your credit report, you can file a dispute by going to the website of any credit bureau. CredAbility also has a sample dispute letter on its website. (Link:
http://tinyurl.com/disputeletter ) Correcting a wrong address or other personal information is usually simple. Disputing late payment or collection reports requires providing documentation such as receipts or proof of payment. If you believe you have been the victim of identity theft, you may need to file a police report in addition to contacting the credit bureaus. All written communication with the credit bureaus should be sent via certified mail.

Deputy Police Commissioner in charge of Operations Jack Ewatski has denied saying there were 300 police vehicles at the Vehicle Maintenance Corporation (VMCOTT). Referring to an article in yesterday’s Guardian newspaper, Ewatski said he was surprised to read that VMCOTT’s CEO Robert Charbonne was denying there were 300 police vehicles on the compound.

“I certainly did not say there were 300 police vehicles at VMCOTT. That is totally incorrect…totally false. “What I did say was there were some 300 police vehicles which were non-operational…I never even once mentioned VMCOTT by name,” Ewatski said. He said the Police Service has always maintained a professional relationship with VMCOTT which was always cordial.

Ewatski said Charbonne had written to him reinforcing VMCOTT’s commitment to working with the Police Service and ensuring vehicles were delivered in a timely fashion. Ewatski said the figure of 300 was “fluid,” as the vehicles were repaired, disposed of or replaced. He said there were some 80 vehicles waiting to be auctioned while others which were involved in road traffic accidents were kept at the police stations until reports were finalised and submitted.

On Tuesday, Ewatski met with Assistant Police Commissioner (Mobile) Terry Archibald, Supt in charge of Transport Ragbar Gopersad and the service’s fleet manager Michael Julius. An audit has begun of all vehicles in the Police Service and a database system to assist in fleet management is to be introduced.

Ewatski has also denied that police vehicles were being sent to private garages to be repaired. “I have no knowledge of that…That is not the case,” he said.

lt;pgt;DeLuca Toyota in Ocala began breaking ground last week on its new $14 million showroom and service center on State Road 200.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Owner Frank DeLuca said when he started the dealership 33 years ago on a 3½-acre lot, selling a relatively unknown brand of car made in Japan, he never suspected the dealership would do so well.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Construction of the new 65,000-square-foot facility will begin in four months and take a year to complete. It will replace the dealerships current 22,000-square-foot showroom and service area. It will be built on the 6-acre site that once made up the Ocala Rallye Motors dealership, which DeLuca bought for $3.75 million 2½ years ago.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;DeLuca said much of the success of his dealership is due to loyal customers who return to buy new cars.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Seventy-eight percent of our customers are repeat customers, DeLuca said, adding later, We treat every customer like an honored guest in our home.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;This is my baby, he said of the business. This is my No. 1 business that I have here. I really care about our customers.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;The latest Ocala Rallye Motors land purchase puts the Toyota dealership at nearly 25 acres. The business employs 131 people.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;The new facility will not only expand the showroom and office space, but also increase the number of service bays from the current 19 to 42.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;The expansion also will create jobs, DeLuca said. All told, the expansion will involve hiring as many as 40 more employees, about half of whom will be mechanics.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Construction of the facility will put between 150 to 200 people to work, DeLuca estimated.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;DeLuca said the new facility also will include entertainment for people in the process of buying a vehicle or getting one serviced. The facility will include a movie theater, salon and massage chairs.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Customer service also will include free coffee, cappuccinos and sandwiches.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;And I try to meet every customer and personally thank them (for buying a vehicle) … and shake their hand before they walk out of the dealership, DeLuca said.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;On the facilitys second floor, DeLuca said, there will be a putting green. The green is for customers to entertain themselves, but DeLuca also welcomed customers negotiating the price of their new vehicles to use the green to settle price disputes with the sales staff.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Although Toyota sales and profits slumped after last years tsunami in Japan, DeLuca said sales are back to normal, and his dealership recently experienced one of its best three-day sales periods, selling 47 vehicles.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;The DeLuca sales mirror a resurgence in the US auto industry after a slump in mid-2011. Sales of all brand cars and light trucks had fallen to about 900,000 new vehicles in January 2012, a tumble after sales had reached a December high of about 1.2 million.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;By February, sales again were improving and were surpassing 1.1 million, according to motorintelligence.com, an industry website that analyzes automotive sales and trends. In March, US vehicle sales reached 1.45 million, rounding out the best quarter for US vehicle sales since 2008.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Vehicle sales for the year through March hit 3.45 million, about 400,000 more than for the same time frame in 2011.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. saw its share of the upswing. March sales reached 203,282 vehicles, a 15.4 percent increase from March 2011. Between January 2012 and March 2012, Toyota Motor Sales USA sold 487,284 vehicles, a 12.3 percent increase from the same period a year ago.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Following the sales, Toyota increased its worldwide sales forecast to the low-to mid-14 million range from 13.6 million.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;Were starting to see improvement in consumer confidence and, combined with rising fuel prices and aging vehicles, the market is starting to move, said Bob Carter, Toyotas group vice president for US sales, in an April 5 Automotive News interview. Its happening quicker than anyone thought.lt;/pgt;lt;pgt;lt;igt;Contact Fred Hiers at fred.hiers@starbanner.com.lt;/igt;lt;/pgt;
Universal Auto Loans concentrates on featuring national auto financing if you currently have less-than-perfect credit.
